Day Twenty Seven – 30 Days of Creativity – Meh necklace

Now we’re heading towards the end of the 30 Days of Creativity, I’m starting to feel a little uninspired. I’ve got through most of the ‘have-to-do’ projects and a few of the ‘want-to-do’ and I’m struggling to think what to make. But that is of course why there’s a 30 Days of Creativity Inspiration Calendar! Today’s inspirational word or phrase is ‘extinct mediums’ (though I think they mean ‘media’, right?), so off I headed to my trusty laser cutter, broken record in hand:

'Meh' laser cut from an old record

I’ll put this on some kind of thread or ribbon at some point, making it into a necklace. I’ve been meaning to try lasercutting a record for ages and it worked out really well – being so thin, the plastic is easy to cut, though it created quite a lot of fumes *cough*

Button Wednesday: Chocolate buttons, with a difference

I stumble across button-related items all over the place, but I found the particular item I’d like to talk about today linked as part of a blog post from the excellent moo.com on self-promotion. While the ‘button candy’ featured in the main part of the post looks pretty cool, I fell in love with the ooh-shiny candy buttons in the ‘creating button candy‘ link and decided I must make some!

Trouble was, the site the button moulds were featured on was based in the USA and the postage was prohibitive. So I set out on a mission to find a UK stockist and stumbled across Cakes, Cookies and Crafts where the postage is much more reasonable. It’s surprisingly easy to whip up your own batch of chocolate-y button goodness (as evidenced by my blurrily photographed attempt here). I’d like to work out some interesting things to do with them (as opposed to just stuffing my face with them in a sugar-induced frenzy). I think they’d make good cupcake or fairy cake toppers, or even sprinkles for ice cream sundaes. Any suggestions?

Buttons + chocolate = amazingness!

Disclaimer: Neither moo.com nor Cakes, Cookies and Crafts have asked me to big them up, I just felt like it 🙂

Button Wednesday: A donation

Most people who know me know that I like buttons, and one of my close friends made me very happy the other day by donating a stack of buttons to my stash! I’m to transform some of them into jewellery for her but the rest I am free to do with what I like. I’ve picked out a few of the more unusual (and possibly vintage?) buttons for your delectation:

My lovely donated buttons

Does anyone have suggestions for what I could do with any of them?

Please do let me know if you come across any button-y goodness on the ‘net that you think I might like to share!
