Day Twenty Four – 30 Days of Creativity – Button temporary tattoo

I was inspired to make today’s creation through having a little bit of an identity crisis. Occasionally I go to events like Etsy meetups, craft fairs and networking events where it would be beneficial to make it really obvious that I am ‘Becky Button’. I was pondering ways to do this, short of loading myself up with every bit of button-y jewellery I possess! Sometimes it’s just not practical to wear one of my laser cut necklaces or a long pair of dangly button earrings. Even brooches are kind of out of the question because they’d get in the way of my camera bag/handbag etc. Then I had a eureka moment, inspired by a couple of Twitter friends’ conversation about temporary tattoos. I knew we had some printable temporary tattoo paper from way back when, so I made some button-y tattoos!

They are of course the vector buttons that feature in my blog header, though I guess you could use almost anything. You just cut round the picture and peel it off the backing, no need for water as the ‘tattoo’ just sticks to your skin.

I’ll try to get some in-action shots tomorrow as it was too dark this evening to get anything decent.

Day Ten – 30 Days of Creativity – Laser cut button

Today – it’s my birthday! So after all the presents and projects for other people I decided to make something for myself.

Becky Button logo - laser cut

Not sure how successful it was: I was trying to make a layered lasercut acrylic version of the blue button in my logo but that light blue highlight didn’t come out quite right. I may have to cut it in a slightly different shape (and get some acrylic in the right colour). Hmm.

Still, it’s likely that no-one would notice its slight wonkiness but me, perfectionist that I am!

My first blog feature!

Just a quick note to share that one of my Aqua Marina necklaces has been featured in the Etsy for Animals blog as part of their Sea Turtle themed post.

Sea Turtle

It’s the first time someone has featured one of my items on their blog, so I’m pretty excited! I am actually a member of Etsy for Animals so they didn’t randomly stumble across me on Etsy but it’s still good to get a little bit of attention.

New range of laser cut jewellery coming soon …

Aqua Marina (Or, a bit of shameless self-promotion)

I’m going to apologise in advance for the aforementioned shameless self-promotion!

I’ve been working on a new range of laser cut acrylic jewellery recently that I thought I’d share with you all in order to get feedback and ideas for improvements. I had fun creating my mini Christmas range but wanted to create a non-seasonal range, and one that, as a member of the Etsy for Animals team, I could use to raise a bit of money for animal charities.

So, where to start? Well, I pondered this for a bit then remembered I’d fallen in love with the manatees on Last Chance To See, a televisual update (with Stephen Fry and Mark Carwardine) of one of my favourite books of all time (Last Chance To See by Douglas Adams), so I designed a manatee necklace:

Having created the first piece of the collection I decided to take the marine theme and run with it – hence the name Aqua Marina! All the pieces will include a donation to an appropriate charity – at the moment I will be donating to Fauna and Flora International (as supported by Stephen Fry) and the Rainforest Alliance, unless anyone can suggest other, reputable, more specific charities for each of the species I’ve ‘made’.

I decided not to decorate these pieces with buttons and cabochons (a la my Christmas items) because I want the simplicity of the shape to show through (though the rainbow tentacles on the jellyfish are admittedly pretty bling!). I’d love to know what you think of my creations, and if you have suggestions for other marine themed necklaces that I could make…

Hello world!

Hello and welcome to the blog of Becky Button!

I hope to post as regularly as I can, on an assortment of topics from crafts to inspiration to new products to chickens to who knows what else…I’ll be joining in the blogosphere’s Button Wednesday and posting buttony amazingness once a week (if not more, given my obsession).

Please do let me know if there’s anything you particularly enjoy me posting about, and I will try to do more of it. I’m hoping to run a little competition fairly soon so do keep an eye out!
